I recently had a friend insist that I read The Alchemist. An adventure/fiction novel, it felt more like a fable. It tells the story of a young shepherd who travels far and wide to find a treasure he repeatedly dreams about. On his journey, he overcomes obstacles and strives to interpret recurring dreams which teach him what we all come to realize when we reach middle age: life does not unfold in a straight line and our proverbial "destiny" is comprised of a series of people and meaningful events over time, not just one grandiose moment or situation.
I yawned through the first dozen or so pages of The Alchemist, and then I was hooked. This small book has become my anthem. It affirms what I aspire to disseminate through my writing: that we all have a purpose that will both drive us daily and guide us meaningfully throughout the seasons of our lives if we let it. Much of what I write about is how we find the purpose in the ebb and flow of the mundane, how despite everything that appears to be working against us, there is a transcendent force that ensures we arrive in exactly the place we are supposed to be, precisely when we need to be there.
I invite you to follow my page and explore my writings as I journey to use my gifts to spread insight, inspiration, joy, and humor on this windy, harrowing, unpredictable, remarkable journey we call life.
